Strategic Command course — Armed Forces Parliamentary Trust

The Strategic Command course is delivered from within UK Strategic Command in the Ministry of Defence. 

The course is run annually by a military officer at Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent rank.  The aim of the course is to give students a level of awareness and, where possible, hands-on learning between tactical and strategic level military activities; where campaigns and major joint operations are planned and actions are integrated and sequenced to achieve strategic objectives.

The course’s interventions will be split across three terms aligned to the parliamentary calendar and will focus on:

  • Wargaming

  • Joint Operational Planning

  • Defence Futures

  • Defence Intelligence

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Defence Nuclear

  • Defence Medical Services/Joint Medical Operations

  • Joint Innovation Hub

  • Defence Digital

  • Defence Logistics

  • Legal – Law of Armed Conflict and International Humanitarian Law

  • Chaplaincy – the moral component

  • Integrated Global Defence Network– international diplomacy

  • NATO, EU, SHAPE including an overseas visit

  • Defence People including veterans, families, conduct equity and justice; recruiting and retention; medallic recognition and honours; Royal Household; ceremonial and commemorations.
